There are multiple ways patients can obtain contraceptives. You can book an appointment with one of our nurses to discuss what method might be most suitable for you, get advice from SH:24 or talk to your local community pharmacist.
SH:24 is an online sexual health service, originally set up to provide free and discreet STI testing. They now also provide various forms of contraception such as the combined and progesterone only pills, the vaginal ring, the contraceptive patch and emergency contraception via an online consultation form which is assessed by one of their clinicians. Many of these forms of contraception can be initiated by SH:24 as well as getting repeat prescriptions for contraception. This service is free, delivered quickly and can provide up to a year’s worth of contraceptive at once. SH:24 can be found here: Order free contraception | SH:24
Community pharmacies can also now initiate and provide repeat prescriptions for the contraceptive pill to patients for free. This can be access by attending a pharmacy and asking if they can provide this service, please be aware that not all pharmacies will be able to provide contraceptive services if they do not meet the criteria e.g. having completed the required training.
To access contraceptive services through the surgery, please complete an online medical request form here.
